AI Companion Privacy Comparison: Questions to Ask Before Sharing

Compare data exposure, controls, and deletion answers without making unsupported security promises.

A visual map for comparing needs, evidence, and decisions
Keep the test fair. Use fictional adults, identical prompts and current service evidence. Leave unknown facts unresolved.

Map what you plan to share

List the categories you might provide: fictional chat, personal feelings, images, voice, payment information, or device permissions. Reduce the list before comparing services. The safest sensitive detail is often the one you never upload. Do not enter secrets, government identifiers, passwords, or another person’s private content into a companion chat.

Read the current policy with a purpose

Look for what is collected, why it is used, retention, service providers, model improvement, account access, export, and deletion. Policies can change, so save the date and link. A polished privacy slogan is not a substitute for the full explanation. If a term is unclear, write a precise support question instead of filling the gap with reassurance.

Inspect controls in the actual account

A policy may describe rights while the interface shows how practical they are. Find chat deletion, memory controls, account closure, data request, and marketing preferences. Do not complete a destructive step during comparison; document where it begins and what confirmation appears. App removal is not automatically account or server-data deletion.

Consider permissions and payment separately

Check whether microphone, camera, photos, contacts, or notifications are necessary for your intended use. Deny permissions you do not need. Payment processors and app stores can create separate records and cancellation routes. Keep account deletion, content deletion, and subscription cancellation as three distinct checklist items.

Use a low-exposure trial

Start with fictional details and no identifiable media. This gives you time to observe the experience and controls without creating a large personal archive. If the service cannot answer a material privacy question, decide whether your use can remain low exposure. No comparison page can guarantee the security of an external platform.

Record evidence, uncertainty, and date

Use three columns: verified from current documentation or account, unresolved, and unacceptable. Avoid a precise trust score when the evidence is incomplete. Recheck before sharing more or renewing. A dated, qualified comparison remains useful even when products evolve because it shows exactly what you relied upon.
